Replacing a Hall of Famer, supporting a sick wife

Ryan Lousteau seemed primed to take on the biggest challenge of his life when he accepted the head coaching position at St. Thomas Houston. The first-year head coach took over a program rich in history, following in the footsteps of former coach Craig Biggio. A cancer diagnosis for Lousteau’s wife put that initial challenge in perspective.

The 2013-14 offseason brought significant change to the St. Thomas Houston program. Blue-chip recruit Cavan Biggio graduated and took his game to Notre Dame, following in the footsteps of his brother, Connor. Houston Astros legend Craig Biggio retired as St. Thomas coach to allow for more time to watch his sons play in college.
